Warhammer 40K 1000 Point Battle: Death Worlds

In a previous post I promised a 1000 point battle report when I reached over 100 followers on twitter. The time is approaching when I can meet up with my challenger and his tyranid army. We’ve agreed we’re going to give the Death World scenario a go from White Dwarf issue 388. We’re also going to use the same lists as the battle report featured in the same issue.

So here are the lists:

For me it looks like a difficult battle for the Space Wolves but I’m gonna give it a go and I’ll post a battle report on here.

What do you guys think of the lists and whether it will be a good battle?

Warhammer 40,000 Battle Missions: Death Worlds

In issue 388 of White Dwarf Games Workshop have included some scenarios for 40k players. I like the idea of these and I’m going to play a few games using these scenarios as soon as I can.

Here’s a few pages about it:

There’s also a nice battle report between Space Wolves and Nids that I want to recreate with a friend. I’ll share the outcome on here

The Wolves of Fenris Arrive

Well GW have announced it now and the new Space Wolves are available to advance order. But the prices…

Now I usually don’t have much to complain about with GW, I tolerate alot and understand some of the reasons for what they do. However some of the prices for these are a joke:
Thunderwolf Cavalry – £33
Fenrisian Wolf Pack – £15
Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf – £25
Arjac Rockfist – £15
Grey Hunter with Banner – £15
Cyberwolf – £10

The Thunderwolf Cavalry was inevitable, especially with the Bloodcrushers as a reference, the same with the Fenrisian wolves which I think is fairly reasonable. The Wolf Lord is pushing it, but most people will accept it. Now Arjac (£15), when all other Finecast Terminators are £14.50 I don’t see what makes him so valuable, it may be only 50p more but what makes him so special to warrant that extra fee. AND THE GREY HUNTER, the previous Grey Hunter with a banner was £7.20 so where did they conjure that price for it (£15) it’s not even that nice a model and would look out of place in any army not using Ragnar’s company.

I’m not clued in with Tyranids so let me know if you think the prices for the releases for them is reasonable:
Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord – £33
Tyrannofex/Tervigon – £35

Update on Incoming Space Wolves

I’ve been seeing more and more about the GW March releases and I have to say the more I see the more I look forward to 1. Getting my hands on the WD so I can get a proper look and 2. Getting my hands on these models!

Here are some images of the Arjac model, the Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf mount, a Grey Hunter with a Wolf Banner and a Cyberwolf. Personally I quite like the Arjac model but think I’d prefer the shield to be a bit bigger perhaps, not quite sure but I do know I think it’s missing a certain “something”, the Wolf Lord looks pretty awesome and his mount is amazing. I’ll definately want one of those to lead my many Thunderwolf Cavalry purchases.

On the other hand, the cyberwolf looks a bit weak, I’m not sure if it’s the pose but it looks a bit feeble. The Grey Hunter looks ok, dunno if I am as excited about it as the other releases but it would still be a nice addition to an army.

No Longer Rumoured March Releases

Unless these pictures that I came across are the result of some incredible photoshop work, then I’d say these pretty much confirm the rumours.

What’s good is how awesome the Thunderwolves and Fenrisian wolves look.

I can see myself losing or investing alot of money in March…

Rumoured March Releases

I don’t know how reliable my source is, but they claim to have been informed by their local retailer, in Sweden, of new releases in 40k. For Space Wolves and Tyranid fans these look pretty exciting, mainly for the Space Wolf fans. The rumoured releases include:

Space Wolves Thunder Wolf Cavalry (3 figures. Plastic box)
Space Wolves Fenrisan Wolfpack (5 figures plastic box)
Wolf Lord on Thunder Wolf (1 figure finecast)
Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris (1 figure finecast)
Hive Tyranid Tyrant, The Swarmlord (1 figure plastic box)
Tyranid Tyrannofex, Tervigon (1 Fig plastic box)

So what do you guys think of these?

I’ve seen alot of people in forums complaining that they’re too late and that they don’t like how GW stagger their releases, however, it’s how GW do things and there are probably several reasons why. What disappoints me is the lack of a new Ragnar model, Arjac is easy enough to make from the Wolf Guard kit and the Ragnar model is too static and needs updating.

When I asked about pricing, he only had the Swedish prices (understandably). But based on the current exchange rates he worked out these:

Space Wolves Thunderwolf Cavalry 359 SEK / 32 GBP / 39 Euro
Space Wolves Fenrisan Wolfpack 155 SEK / 14 GBP / 17 Euro
Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf 255 SEK / 23 GBP / 28 Euro
Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris 169 SEK / 14 GBP / 18 Euro

These seem fairly realistic as I imagine Arjac will be £14.50, based on the prices of Logan and Njal. If this is the case, 3 Thunderwolf Cavalry for around £30 sounds quite good to me, based on GW prices, and the fenrisian wolfpack would be a nice piece to add character to an army.

Here’s hoping the Thunderwolf Cavalry don’t look as deranged as Canis’ mount.

I can’t exactly give up Warhammer for Lent now, this just confirms that the devil works for GW.
